At the Cape Eleuthera Institute, we are devoted to research, education, and conservation.
In 2024, we made significant new discoveries, formed collaborations and partnerships; and delivered impactful programming. As we continue to see this same momentum in 2025, we are also entering a period of exciting change and opportunity. We’re delighted to share our 2024 Impact Report that highlights our team’s ongoing work and achievements.
We hope this impact report gives you insight into the work that our dedicated teams have done over the past year. None of this would have been possible without your support! Click here to read the full report: Cape Eleuthera Institute 2024 Impact Report.

Leadership Changes at CEI
Last month, we said farewell to Dr. Nick Higgs, who served as the Director of Research & Innovation at CEI since 2018. Nick’s leadership was crucial to expanding the scope of research and innovation at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, and he successfully navigated several challenges during his tenure, including the COVID-19 pandemic and changes to the research permitting system in The Bahamas that were instated in 2021. His experience proved invaluable, and he set CEI up for ongoing and future success. We wish him all the best as he continues to live our mission of leadership affecting change with his exciting new role in Nassau.
We warmly welcome Dr. Eric Schneider as our new Director of Research & Innovation. Eric has worked with our organization since 2013, became our Assistant Director in 2024, and has led research programs at CEI for the last 8 years. He brings a background and interest in both marine and terrestrial research, as well as sustainability fields; and he has coordinated our Semester student research curriculum for the last 2 years after leading student research projects for 14 semesters. We are excited to have him in this role!
