After School Programs

Extending Learning Beyond the School Day

Our After School Programs offer a range of opportunities to children from the settlement of Deep Creek in South Eleuthera. In a collaborative effort involving The Island School and Deep Creek Schools, this initiative consistently provides five days of After School programming per week.

Our After School programs include:

Community Farm

The Island School has partnered with a Deep Creek Primary School teacher to run a local garden at the primary school with the help of its students. The students learn about gardening techniques, the life cycle of a plant, and develop teamwork skills and responsibility by maintaining the garden.

Open Learning Center

This program supports homework completion, reading, and math. Students are provided one-on-one supervision and assistance. Offered twice a week, it is a key program for the youngest members of the settlement.

Plastic Club

This club was established in an effort to teach students about single-use plastic and its impact on the environment. Deep Creek Primary School children are supported to become environmental advocates as they lead initiatives to reduce plastic use in South Eleuthera.

Sports

The sports program facilitates opportunities for children in Deep Creek to practice some of their favorite sports including volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, and softball. The program fosters peer-to-peer collaboration, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.

Swim Club

This club offers a safe environment for children in South Eleuthera to learn how to swim, develop in-water skills, and build comfort in the ocean. Each child progresses at their own pace and develops a love for the ocean and swimming.
