Short Courses Long on Experiential Learning
At The Island School, we are committed to providing a progressive and dynamic environment for visiting groups and students of all ages to engage in experiential learning.
Through our Visiting Programs, or short courses, we instill within group members a sense of place and leadership that enables them to make meaningful changes in their own communities.
Implementing primary research, working with sustainable systems, learning about our island habitat and incorporating outreach with the local community makes our Visiting Programs a transformative experience for all participants.
School Programs From Middle School to College
Educators and students of all levels are invited to join us at The Island School campus to access resources to support their curriculum or initiatives using place-based education. We offer students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, as we connect the work that our scientists and engineers do at The Island School with the work that students and educators are doing in their classrooms.
Our Visiting Programs offer students the ability to step outside of their comfort zones and become immersed in our diverse island community. Courses range from one to three weeks in length and focus on sustainable energy, ongoing environmental research, marine ecology, local outreach, and various aspects of personal development. Courses can be tailored to meet the needs of a specific group. On campus, groups have access to our eco-friendly wet and dry labs, boat fleet, dive shop, field sampling tools, and presentation rooms.
A Full, Immersive Experience
While here, student groups engage as intentional members of our Island School community. They are accommodated in our seaside dorm facilities. They participate in dish crew, daily chores, adopt our sustainable-living practices, volunteer with our local community, and more. Visiting groups also have access to our programs focused on scuba diving (certified or uncertified), as well as camping and expeditions.
All Groups Are Welcome
You may be a school group in search of a unique educational experience. You might be a special interest group wanting to visit Eleuthera for a short program or to conduct your own research. You may be a local community group with an idea for a program or workshop. Whatever your interest, we’ll help design and implement a program to meet your needs.
