Welcoming the 2026 Summer Apprentices to Campus

The Island School fosters a learning environment that extends far beyond the classroom walls through meaningful, hands-on experiences that build practical skills and confidence.
The Summer Apprentice Program is a paid six-week opportunity that connects young members of the South Eleuthera community with staff to gain real-world experience and develop skills that can be applied to a specific trade.
This summer, we are excited to welcome 11 Apprentices from South Eleuthera onto our campus!
Meet Our Summer 2026 Apprentice Cohort
Rickeirah Curtis
Rickeirah Curtis is a recent graduate of Preston H. Albury High School in Rock Sound, Eleuthera. She is an apprentice with the education department and is hoping to develop and learn communication and time management skills. She aspires to start her own business in the future.
Shekinah Rolle
Shekinah is a current Grade 11 student at Preston H. Albury High School. She is an apprentice with the School Store and the accounts department. After graduation, she aspires to pursue a career in cosmetology. She is passionate about helping others achieve confidence through looking and feeling their best.
Veron Ferguson
Veron is from Wemyss Bight, Eleuthera, and is a current Grade 12 student at Preston H. Albury High School. He is an apprentice in the auto mechanics department. He is interested in learning new skills to prepare for future career opportunities.
Renaisha John
Renaisha is a recent graduate of Preston H. Albury High School. She is an apprentice with the purchasing and inventory department. She is excited to build real workplace experience before attending college. She aspires to become a primary school teacher due to her love of the learning and teaching environment.
Sheara Styles
Sheara is a recent graduate from Preston H. Albury High School. She is an apprentice with the education department and is eager to develop practical skills for the workforce. She aspires to become a nail technician.
David Whylly, Jr.
David is a current Grade 11 student at Preston H. Albury High School from Green Castle, Eleuthera. He is an apprentice with the woodwork team. He aspires to become a professional football player and create his own clothing brand.
Kayliah Kemp
Kayliah is a current Grade 10 student at Hope Academy. She is an apprentice with the IT department. She aspires to become a doctor and a part-time cosmetologist.
Neil Thompson, Jr.
Neil is a current Grade 10 student at Preston H. Albury High School. He is an apprentice with the boathouse team. He aspires to become a boat captain after graduation.
Taeneiah Sealy
Taeneiah is a current Grade 11 student at Preston H. Albury High School. She is an apprentice working with Cape Eleuthera Institute teams to maintain the aquaponics system and study coral research. She aspires to become a nurse.
Jamyah Rolle
Jamyah is a Grade 12 student at Preston H. Albury School. She is an apprentice with the education department. Her objective is to gain valuable workplace experience, develop professional skills, and contribute positively to the department. After graduating, she plans to attend college and study criminal justice.
Shavonya Thompson
Shavonya is a current Grade 10 student at Preston H. Albury School. She is an apprentice with the kitchen team. Once graduated from high school, she hopes to apply all the skills learned this summer to a career as a chef.
Career Readiness: From Experience to Growth
This program aims to provide young Bahamians with meaningful work experience.
In addition to working with staff, apprentices also participate in professional development workshops that will prepare them for future careers. These sessions focus on essential skills, including professional communication, resume and application writing, interview preparation, and conflict resolution. These experiences will help apprentices build confidence as they prepare for their transition into future careers.
By the end of the six-week program, apprentices will leave with more than just work experience. They will gain a deeper understanding of professional expectations, develop relationships with mentors that can serve as future references, and create clearer long-term goals for themselves.
